Jennette Bradley

Jennette B. Bradley (born October 2, 1952 in Columbus , Ohio ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2005, she was lieutenant governor of the state of Ohio.

Career

Jennette Bradley attended East High School in her hometown of Columbus until 1970 . She then studied psychology at Wittenberg University in Springfield until 1974 . She later worked for the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority , of which she has since become head. After a three year stint in the federal capital Washington, DC , she returned to Columbus in 1989, where she worked as a senior executive for the Huntington National Bank .

Politically, Bradley joined the Republican Party . Between 1991 and 2003, she sat on the Columbus City Council as the first African American woman. In 2002, she was elected Lieutenant Governor of Ohio alongside Bob Taft . She held this office between 2003 and 2005. She was only the third woman and the first African American in this office. At the same time she held several other government offices. For example, she was the trade minister of her state. It was politically controversial in Ohio. In 2005, she resigned as lieutenant governor. Then Bruce Johnson was appointed her successor. After ending her tenure as Lieutenant Governor, she was Ohio Treasury Secretary from 2005 to 2007.
