Gertrude Walton Donahey

Gertrude Walton Donahey (born August 4, 1908 in Goshen Township , Ohio , † July 11, 2004 in Bexley , Ohio) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ). She was Ohio's Treasurer of State from 1971 to 1983 .

Career

Gertrude Walton was born in Tuscarawas County in 1908 . Nothing is known about her youth. Walton studied law and then began practicing law after she was admitted. She was elected Treasurer of State of Ohio in 1970 and re-elected in 1974 and 1978. She was the first woman to hold this post. She was also the second woman to hold a post as judge on the Ohio Supreme Court . The first wife was Florence Ellinwood Allen . Walton was married to John W. Donahey , who was Lieutenant Governor of Ohio from 1959 to 1963 . The couple had at least one son named John W. Donahey, Jr. Her father-in-law was A. Victor Donahey , Governor of Ohio and a member of the US Senate . She died at the age of 95 in Bexley, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio.
