Charles Cameron Green (born April 6, 1873 in Salineville , Ohio , † September 7, 1940 in Columbus , Ohio) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He was Treasurer of State of Ohio for several weeks from 1908 to 1909 .

Career

Charles Cameron Green was born in Columbiana County in 1873 . His father was accidentally killed on September 1, 1877. He and his mother then moved to East Liverpool . She worked in a pottery there to support the family. The children went to school there for a few years. At the age of 12, Charles Cameron Green began working for the Knowles, Taylor & Knowles Pottery Company in East Liverpool. He worked there for eight years. During this time he worked in various office activities.

On September 12, 1893, he gave up his position in the pottery to go back to school. Green later served as Chief Clerk at Boyce Foundry and Machine Works of East Liverpool . He continued this activity until he was cashier in the Columbiana County Treasury under Treasurer Isaac B. Cameron . In 1899, Cameron was elected Treasurer of State of Ohio. His tenure began in January 1900. He subsequently appointed Green as treasurer in the tax office. Cameron was re-elected in 1901. Green also held the post under William S. McKinnon , who was elected Treasurer of State in 1903 and re-elected in 1905.

An amendment to the Ohio State Constitution moved the election from odd to even years. As a result, McKinnon's tenure was extended to January 1909. McKinnon decided not to run again in 1908. The Republican Party then nominated Green for the office of Treasurer of State. He lost the following election in November 1908 to Democrat David S. Creamer by less than 2,000 votes out of more than a million votes cast. McKinnon died on November 17, 1908 before the end of his term of office. The Governor of Ohio Andrew L. Harris then appointed Green for the remaining term of McKinnon to the Treasurer of State.

Green died in 1940 in Columbus (Ohio) and then at the city cemetery in Summerford ( Madison County interred), where his wife was also buried. Green married Florence J. Rose of Canton, Ohio , in 1900 . He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE), the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), and AF & A.M. on.
