Leroy Welsh

Leroy W. Welsh (born March 1844 in Beallsville , Ohio , † August 20, 1879 in Belmont County , Ohio) was an American lawyer and politician ( Republican Party ). He was Ohio Treasurer of State from 1875 to 1876 .

Career

Leroy W. Welsh was born in Monroe County during the economic depression of 1837 . His childhood was overshadowed by the Mexican-American War . The Welsh family moved to Washington Township (Belmont County) in 1854 . In 1869 he graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware (Ohio). He then studied at home for a year Jura before the University of Cincinnati College of Law visited, where he graduated in 1871. In early 1872 he became Chief Assistant in the Ohio Treasury under his father Isaac Welsh , who was elected Treasurer of State of Ohio in 1871 and re-elected in 1873. Leory W. Welsh held the post until his father's death in 1875. Ohio Governor William Allen then appointed him the new Treasurer of State of Ohio for the remaining weeks of his father's tenure. After that, Welsh returned home in Belmont County in early 1876. Welsh practiced law in Belmont County and later opened his own law firm in Columbus, Ohio. However, he returned home in Belmont County to die there when he fell ill.
