Júnior Caiçara ( Bulgarian Жуниор Кайсара Schunior Kajsara , born April 27, 1989 in São Paulo ; actually Uilson de Souza Paula Júnior ) is a Brazilian football player who has also had Bulgarian citizenship since 2014 . The right full-back has been under contract with Istanbul Başakşehir since the second half of the 2016/17 season .

Club career

Beginnings in Brazil

Júnior Caiçara went through the youth department of Coritiba FC from the city of Curitiba . In 2008 he signed his first professional contract with the EC Santo André (suburban belt around São Paulo ). Here he did not get beyond the role of the talented youth player and only completed one league game. A year later he was loaned several times to the Brazilian club Centro Sportivo Alagoano , but without being used in a professional league game. In early 2010 he played for a month on loan at América FC (SP) . He played four league games there.

Gil Vicente FC

On July 1, 2010, Caiçara moved to Europe on loan. He was awarded to the Portuguese Segunda Liga club Gil Vicente FC for two years. Here Júnior Caiçara quickly advanced to the top performer in the position of right full-back. In total, he played 56 league games and scored one goal. At the end of the 2011/12 season he rose with the team in the Primeira League . Previously, the team lost 2-1 in the final of the Portuguese League Cup Taça da Liga against Benfica Lisbon .

Ludogorez Razgrad

Although his loan deal with the Portuguese expired, he did not return to his home club in Brazil, but was bought for the equivalent of 300,000 euros from the Bulgarian champions and previous A-Grupa newcomer Ludogorez Razgrad . With the Bulgarians he was able to build on the strong performances from Portugal. In the following three years he was three times Bulgarian champion, twice won the Bulgarian Football Cup and twice the Bulgarian Football Supercup; he was also able to qualify for both the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Champions League .

FC Schalke 04

On June 24, 2015, for the 2015/16 season , Caiçara moved to the Bundesliga for FC Schalke 04 . With the Knappen he received the shirt number 3 and a contract until June 30, 2018. He played his first competitive game for Schalke in the 5-0 victory in the DFB Cup against MSV Duisburg . He made his first Bundesliga game on matchday 2 in a 1-1 draw against newly promoted SV Darmstadt 98 . On September 17, he made his first international game for FC Schalke in a 3-0 win against APOEL Nicosia in the UEFA Europa League . Despite 32 competitive games across all competitions in the right defensive position, he did not develop into a real regular player in the first season at S04; Coach André Breitenreiter often relied on the more experienced Sascha Riether (20 games). Caiçara prepared five goals in the 32 games.

In the following season under the new head coach Markus Weinzierl , Caiçara could not fight his way into the starting eleven. In the first half of the season he only had 107 minutes in three games. Things looked better for him in the Europa League , where he played four full-distance games. He scored a goal in the group game against FK Krasnodar . He also played two games in the DFB Cup , where he managed an assist. Since Schalke defended mainly behind with a three-man chain in the first half of the season, Caiçara was mainly used as a right midfielder.

Istanbul Basakşehir

On January 16, 2017, the move to Turkey to Istanbul Başakşehir was announced. Júnior Caiçara quickly established himself as a regular player and was able to celebrate the runner-up in the 2016/17 and 2018/19 seasons. In the 2019/20 season he was able to celebrate the first championship with Başakşehir.

National team

Júnior Caiçara has not yet played an international match, but when he received Bulgarian citizenship, he mentioned that he wanted to play for the Bulgarian national team.

Style of play

Júnior Caiçara is considered a fast, technically skilled full-back with a targeted urge to attack. His fitness levels and high athleticism are also appreciated. He can also be used in the right midfield .
