Mahmut Tekdemir (born January 20, 1988 in Çermik in the Diyarbakır province ) is a Turkish football player who plays for Istanbul Başakşehir FK .

Career

Player profile

Tekdemir is a six-foot midfielder with primary header strength and game-building skills and can play with both feet. He plays primarily in the defensive midfield and is considered a football defensive bulwark to stop opposing offensive players. You can also use him as a central defender in defense .

society

Tekdemir began with the club football in the Istanbul municipality Zeytinburnu in the youth of the amateur clubs Eroğluspor and Damlaspor, then he played in the junior team of Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor . In January 2006 he received a professional contract from the latter and fought for a regular place within one and a half seasons.

After he missed relegation in the Süper Lig with his club in the summer of 2013 , he ended the second division season 2013/14 with this as a champion and thus managed to get promoted again. In the 2014/15 season, Tekdemir established himself more and more as a service provider at his club, which in the meantime had changed its name to Istanbul Başakşehir FK, and was subsequently nominated for the Turkish national team. Meanwhile, he rose to the team captain and is considered a living Başakşehir efsanesi ( German  Başakşehir legend ), due to his more than a decade of club membership . In August 2019, those responsible at Başakşehir FK extended the contract with the then 31-year-old Tekdemir prematurely until the end of the 2023/24 season. In July 2020, as team captain on the penultimate matchday and as the winning goal scorer of the 1-0 win, Başakşehir FK led to the Turkish championship title of the Süper Lig (2020) for the first time and ahead of schedule.

National team

Tekdemir went through the Turkish U19 and U21 national team. In addition, from 2011 he played five times for the second selection of the Turkish national team (Turkey A2).

After he knew how to convince his club for a long time, Tekdemir was included in the squad of the Turkish national team for the first time in his career in March 2015 as part of a qualifying match for the European Championship 2016 and three days later the following test match by senior national coach Fatih Terim nominated. In the test match he made his A international debut and that right in the starting XI, so Tekdemir achieved one of his greatest career goals.

In the successful qualification for UEFA Euro 2020 , Tekdemir was among the five best players in the Turkish national team with his football performance data and among the 230 best football players in the qualification with 55 national teams.
