Çermik also Şamkuş ( Armenian Ջերմուկ Jermuk , Zazaisch Çêrmug , Kurdish Çêrmûg ) is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Diyarbakır and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Diyarbakır (metropolitan municipality). Çermik is located in the west of the province and borders the provinces of Şanlıurfa , Elazığ and Adıyaman and received the status of a Belediye (municipality) in 1904 . Çermik is the fifth largest Ilçe in the province, the population density is slightly below half the value of the province (114.2 inhabitants per km²).
