Lice ( Zaza Lıcê , Kurdish Licê ) is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Diyarbakır and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Diyarbakır (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1993 . Lice is 95 km from the center of Diyarbakır and borders the Bingöl Province . For centuries, Lice was a village near the larger and more important Antak fortress. But over time the fortress lost its importance and in return Lice became more and more important. In 1867 it was raised to Belediye (municipality).
Lice was on top of a hill until an earthquake destroyed it on September 6, 1975. 2367 people lost their lives. The place was then rebuilt at the foot of the hill in the valley.
The Kurdistan Workers' Party was founded on November 25, 1978 in the former village of Ziyaret near Lice .
In Ilce, located to the north, almost all agriculture and livestock are practiced. Until 2013 it consisted of two Bucaks , 13 districts (Mahalle), 57 villages (Köy) and 112 hamlets (Mezra).
Political
In the 2014 municipal elections, Rezan Zugurli and Harun Erkun were elected co-mayors with 91% of the vote. It was the best result in the local elections. Rezan Zugurli was the youngest female mayor in the history of Turkey. In February 2017 the co-mayors were deposed and an administrator was appointed. In August 2017, Rezan Zugurli was arrested for a four-year prison sentence from 2011, of which she had already spent 13 months in custody in 2012.
Since August 27, 2019, Cevdet Bakkal is Kaymakam from Lice. According to the website, Ruken Yılmaz is co-mayor alongside Tarık Mercan.
