Silvan ( Aramaic ܡܝܦܪܩܝܛ Mîyafariqîn , Kurd. Farqîn or Silîvan ) is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Diyarbakır and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Diyarbakır (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1993 . Silvan lies between Diyarbakır and Siirt . At the end of 2018, Silvan was seventh in the Ilce population ranking. Most of the residents are Kurds . The city is located at the foot of the Albat Mountains.
Buildings and monuments
Silvan is located on the site of the former Martyropolis and perhaps goes back to the Bronze Age Niḫirija . Castle ruins, which are a tourist destination, testify to this today. Also worth seeing are the Great Mosque of Saladin , whose dome, which collapsed in 1152, was rebuilt by 1157.
Nearby are the Hassuni Caves and the Malabadi Bridge (150 m long, 7 m wide, 19 m high) , which was built from colored stones in 1147 during the rule of the Artukids .

In its history, Silvan has always been an important place and capital of several empires such as Tigranes II. Or the Marwanids . According to the city seal, the place received the status of a Belediye (municipality) as early as 1880 .
