Mehmed Emîn Bozarslan

Mehmed Emîn Bozarslan (born September 15, 1934 in Lice , Diyarbakır Province ) is a Turkish writer of Kurdish origin.

His father was a Molla and Bozarslan himself received a classical education in the madrasas in addition to the school education . In 1956 he completed his training and worked as a mufti in various places. In 1960 he wrote his first book entitled "Allaha Iman" (Faith in God). His second book was published in 1964 and was called "Islamiyet açısından Şeyhlik-Ağalik" (Sheikh and Aga from the perspective of Islam). In his third book in 1966, "Doğu'nun Sorunları" (The Problems of the East), he dealt with the Kurdish problem and called for the Kurdish language to be permitted throughout eastern Turkey , both in radio and in newspapers and in schools. His first Kurdish book, Alfabê , the first book on the Kurdish alphabet, led to his arrest and the ban on the book. In 1968 he translated the epic " Mem û Zîn " by Ehmedê Xanî from Kurdish with Arabic letters into Kurdish with Latin letters. He also translated the book into Turkish . This book was initially banned, but was then released again. Bozarslan also translated the Scheref name of Şerefhan into Turkish in 1971. After the military coup in 1971, Bozarslan was imprisoned in Diyarbakir from 1971 to 1974. While in custody, he wrote a book called "Içerdekiler ve Dışardakiler" (Those who are inside and those who are outside). In it he satirically described the oppression of the East by the military dictatorship.

He also translated several books on Kurds into Turkish. He also wrote his own books and several articles and worked as an editor. Since 1978 he has been recognized as a political refugee in Uppsala , Sweden .
