Şerefhan , actually Šaraf Kh ān , with full name Šaraf ud-Dīn Kh ān al-Bitlīsī (* 1543 in Karharud in Qom ; † 1599 or 1603-1604 in Bitlis ) was a Kurdish writer and prince. He is the author of the Šaraf-nāma (Şerefname ), which he began around 1573 and ended in August 1597.

His ancestors ruled as Prince of Ruzegi / Rojkî- tribe over Bitlis . Adverse political conditions forced his father, Emir Şams ad-Din ibn Şeref ad-Din, to emigrate to the Safavid Persia. At the age of nine, Şerefhan came to the court of Shah Tahmasp I for training . As an adult, he held the post of governor in various provinces of Persia for 20 years. In 1576 he was ordered back to the headquarters and the Persian Shah gave Şerefhan the title " Mir der Mire" and appointed him leader of all Iranian Kurds.

But only two years later he fell victim to an intrigue that led him to go to Van with 600 family and tribesmen . The governor of Van, Chusrev Pascha, vouched for him with the Ottoman Sultan Murad III. He fell away from the Persian ruler and supported the Ottomans in the war against the Safavids. Between 1578 and 1588 he waged all Ottoman wars against the Safavid Persian Empire. The Ottoman Sultan Murad III. therefore gave him the title " Khan " and he received from him hereditary rule over the Ottoman provinces of Bitlis and Mus .

When he was 53 years old, he passed his rule on to his son Shams ad-Din Bag Abu Alma'ali.
