A press sack , also known as dumpling sack , is a kitchen utensil for squeezing grated potatoes (potato grated ) in the production of Thuringian dumplings or Vogtland green dumplings.

The press bag consists of coarse and firm fabric . The grated potatoes are put into the press sack together with the resulting water and squeezed over a bowl. The press bag lets the potato starch and water through, the potato fibers remain inside the press bag. You can also squeeze out the press bag with a potato press or press it in a spinner by spinning.

The goal is to remove as much free water as possible from the grated potatoes. To prevent oxidation, the dumpling mass is only removed from the press bag shortly before use.

The similarly functioning cheesecloth is also used for other areas of application .
