In the DFB-Pokal 2016/17 he scored his first competitive goal for VfB Stuttgart on August 20, 2016 against FC 08 Homburg . He ended his first professional season under Luhukay and his successor Hannes Wolf after 21 second division games and two goals with the second division championship and the direct resurgence of his club.

Özcan signed a new contract with VfB Stuttgart after his first games in the Bundesliga in December 2017 with a term until 2021. In the 2-0 win against Werder Bremen on April 21, 2018 (31st match day), he scored his for Stuttgart first Bundesliga goal. In the 2017/18 season , Özcan made 17 Bundesliga appearances (one goal) under Wolf and his successor Tayfun Korkut .
