The tournament of Montaigu ( French Tournoi de Montaigu ) is an international football tournament in the western French municipality of Montaigu , which was originally founded in 1973 for club teams, but has also been held for U-16 national teams since 1976.

history

The tournament was invented in 1973 by the Dutchman André Van Den Brink , who was then president of FC Montaigu , a lower-class French club. The first tournament was won by the Belgian club RSC Anderlecht , who defeated FC Bayern Munich in the final . Third place went to Eintracht Frankfurt . In 1976 the tournament was mixed with U-16 national teams. The French U-16s secured the title in the final against Eintracht Frankfurt. The tournament has been held separately between club and U-16 teams since 1977 and has been held this way every year since then, except in 1981, when only U-16 national teams played the tournament. In 1981 (then still as FRG) and 2007, the German U-16s managed to win the tournament. France was the first country to defend its title (1976, 1977). At the club tournament, the RSC Anderlecht managed to win the tournament three times in a row (1973-1975).
