Montaigu is a village and a former French commune with 5,197 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belonged to the arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon and the canton of Montaigu .

With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Boufféré , La Guyonnière , Montaigu , Saint-Georges-de-Montaigu and Saint-Hilaire-de-Loulay were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Montaigu-Vendée and have the status of a commune in the new municipality déléguée . The administrative headquarters are in Montaigu.
