Saint-Georges-de-Montaigu is a village and a former French commune with 4,289 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belonged to the arrondissement of La Roche-sur-Yon and the canton of Montaigu . The inhabitants are called georgois .
With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Boufféré , La Guyonnière , Montaigu , Saint-Georges-de-Montaigu and Saint-Hilaire-de-Loulay were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Montaigu-Vendée and have the status of a commune in the new municipality déléguée . The administrative headquarters are in Montaigu.
geography
Saint-Georges-de-Montaigu is located on the Maine River , into which the Petite Maine flows here. Saint-Georges-de-Montaigu is surrounded by the villages of Montaigu in the north, La Guyonnière in the northeast, La Boissière-de-Montaigu in the east, Chavagnes-en-Paillers in the south and southeast, Les Brouzils in the south and southwest and Boufféré in the West and northwest.
The former National Route 137 runs through the municipality . The small Montaigu-Saint-Georges airfield is located on the western edge of the municipality.
