Ilhéus do Porto Santo
The Ilhéus do Porto Santo are six uninhabited islands , the Portuguese Atlantic - island of Porto Santo surrounded.
These are rock islands partly composed of bushes and Macaronesian coastal vegetation. All are part of the Natura 2000 network and the Madeira Natural Park .
The six islands off Porto Santo are of particular importance as breeding areas for seabirds and as protected areas for the Macaronesian flora:
As the largest, the Ilhéu da Cal also stands out for its rich limestone layers. Due to the vulnerability of nature, access to the islands is restricted and requires prior permission.
fauna and Flora
The fauna include among others: Cory's Shearwater , Bulwer's Petrel , band-rumped storm-petrel , little shearwater , common tern , Mittelmeermöwe , Berthelot's Pipit and Plain Swift . Present are Madeira wall lizard and two endemic tarantulas , Hogna biscoitoi and Hogna schmitzi .
From the plant world, Levkojen are to be mentioned, the Madeira euphorbie , Lotus glaucus , ice herb and knot-flowered ice plant or Lotus loweanus . There are also a large number of lichens , among them Urzela ( Roccella tinctoria ).
