Joseph Turney

Joseph Turney (born March 19, 1825 in New England , † July 29, 1892 in Cleveland , Ohio ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He was Ohio Treasurer of State from 1880 to 1884 .

Career

Joseph Turney was born in New England in 1825. The Turney family moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1834. The following years were overshadowed by the economic crisis of 1837 , the Mexican-American War and the Civil War . During this time he worked first as a blacksmith and later in the railroad and banking sector. Turney was elected Treasurer of Cuyahoga County in 1865 and re-elected in 1867. He was elected Treasurer of State of Ohio in 1879 and re-elected in 1881. During this time he lived in Columbus, Ohio. After the end of his tenure as Treasurer of State, he returned to Cleveland, where he died several years later.
