John P. Brennan

John P. Brennan (born October 20, 1864 in Urbana , Ohio , † October 14, 1943 in Columbus , Ohio) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ). He was Ohio Treasurer of State from 1913 to 1915 .

Career

John P. Brennan, son of Elizabeth Neville (1832–1914) and Michael Brennan (1826–1923), was born in Champaign County during the Civil War . He attended public and denominational schools in Urbana, Ohio. At the age of 21, the Democratic Party nominated him for the office of recorder in Champaign County. He sat on the Democratic Central Committee for ten years . He was also Chairman of the Champaign Democratic Executive Committee for ten years . Brennan sat on the State Democratic Executive Committee and the State Central Committee for four years . He was a member of the Urbana City Council for ten years . He then served as First Deputy State Fire Marshal for two years . His Democratic party colleague Treasurer of State David S. Creamer then appointed him in 1909 as a treasurer in the tax authorities. In 1912, Brennan was elected Treasurer of State. He held the post from January 1913 to January 1915. Brennan died in Columbus during World War II and was then buried in Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana.

He was married to Mary Coughlin (1865-1944), daughter of Julia Burnell (1844-1918) and Owen J. Coughlin (1839-1882). The couple had at least three children: Elizabeth (1901-1908), Owen (1906-1907) and a baby (1910-1910).
