Location of Brodenaundorf in Saxony

Brodenaundorf is a district of the municipality Rackwitz in the northern Saxony district of the Free State of Saxony . The place was incorporated into Zschortau on July 1, 1950 and has belonged to Rackwitz since March 1, 2004.

Geographical location

Brodenaundorf is located south of Delitzsch between the Werbeliner See (remaining hole of the former Delitzsch-Südwest opencast mine) in the west and the Lober near Zschortau in the east.

history

Brodenaundorf was mentioned for the first time in 1547 and until 1815 belonged to the Electorate of Delitzsch . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952. On July 1, 1950, it was incorporated into Zschortau. In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Brodenaundorf was assigned as a district of Zschortau to the newly cut district of Delitzsch in the Leipzig district, which was dissolved in the Delitzsch district in 1994 .

Due to the decision taken at the 8th SED party conference in 1971 to "expand the energetic base" in the GDR , the rural district of Delitzsch, which had previously been dominated by agriculture, was declared a mining area. For the extraction of lignite in the area around Delitzsch the opening of five opencast mines was planned. In the Brodenaundorf area, these were the Delitzsch-Südwest and Delitzsch-Süd opencast mines. With the opening of the Delitzsch-Südwest opencast mine in 1976, large-scale mining of lignite began in the region. The fulcrum of the open pit was northwest of the place. Since it was moving counterclockwise, the demolition of Brodenaundorf was planned for a time after 1990. However, due to the change in energy policy associated with the German reunification in 1989/90, the town was spared this fate. At the time when the Delitzsch-Südwest opencast mine was shut down quickly and early in 1992/93, the opencast mine had only penetrated as far as Werbelin , the devastation of which was still being carried out amid massive public protests. The opening of the Delitzsch-Süd opencast mine was never realized. The remaining hole on the site of the former Delitzsch-Südwest opencast mine was flooded between 1998 and 2010 and has since formed the Werbeliner Lake .

On March 1, 2004, the municipality of Zschortau and its districts were incorporated into the municipality of Rackwitz, making Brodenaundorf a district of Rackwitz since then.
