George D. Nye

George Dewey Nye (born August 6, 1898 in Waverly , Pike County , Ohio , † January 27, 1969 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1947 and again from 1949 to 1953 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Ohio.

Career

After studying law and being admitted to the bar, George Nye began working in the profession. Between 1923 and 1926 he served as a prosecutor in Pike County; from 1930 to 1937 he was an appellate judge. During World War I he served in the United States Navy . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1928 he ran unsuccessfully for the United States House of Representatives . In 1938 he became a member of the state executive committee of his party. In 1952, 1956, 1960 and 1964 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions . In 1940 he had already been a substitute delegate to the nomination convention at the time.

From 1942 to 1952, Nye was a candidate in all elections for lieutenant governor of his state. In 1944 he was elected to this position alongside Frank J. Lausche , which he held between 1945 and 1947. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1946 he was not re-elected. Between 1949 and 1953 he held this office again under Governor Lausche. He died on January 27, 1969 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
