Andrew Hickenlooper (born August 10, 1837 in Hudson , Ohio , †  May 12, 1904 in Cincinnati , Ohio) was an American officer and politician . Between 1880 and 1882 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Ohio.

Career

Andrew Hickenlooper graduated from Woodward College and Xavier College . He later worked for the Cincinnati City Land Surveyor. Then he became head of this agency. During the civil war he served in the army of the Union , taking part in numerous battles and campaigns. This also included the Atlanta campaign under General William T. Sherman . At the end of the war he was promoted to Brevet Brigadier General. After the war he became US Marshal for the southern part of the state of Ohio. Between 1871 and 1877 he headed the Cincinnati City Building Department. He then became president of the Cincinnati Gas, Light and Coke Company . He held this post until his death.

Politically, Hickenlooper joined the Republican Party . In 1879 he was elected lieutenant governor of Ohio alongside Charles Foster . He held this office between 1880 and 1882. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Andrew Hickenlooper died on May 12, 1904 in Cincinnati, where he was also buried.
