Truman H. Hoag

Truman Harrison Hoag (born April 9, 1816 in Manlius , Onondaga County , New York , †  February 5, 1870 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . In 1869 and 1870 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Truman Hoag attended public schools in his home country. In 1832 he moved to Syracuse , where he first worked as a shop clerk and then in the canal fees office. In 1839 he settled in Oswego and worked there for a company in commission trading. In 1849 he came to Toledo , Ohio, on behalf of this company . He later also worked in the transportation industry and general trade. He also made gas for lighting and coke . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1867 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of mayor of Toledo.

In the congressional election of 1868 , Hoag was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Republican James Mitchell Ashley on March 4, 1869 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on February 5, 1870. He was buried in Toledo.
