James D. Post
James Douglass Post (born November 25, 1863 in Milledgeville , Ohio , † April 1, 1921 in Washington Court House , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1915 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .
Career
James Post attended public schools in his home country. In 1882 he graduated from the National Normal University in Lebanon . He then worked as a teacher for five years. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1887, he began to work in this profession at Washington Court House. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .
In the 1910 congressional election , Post was elected to the 7th constituency of Ohio in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Republican J. Warren Keifer on March 4, 1911 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1915 . From 1913 he was chairman of the Committee on Elections No. 1 . During his tenure as Congressman, the 16th and 17th amendments were ratified.
In 1914, Post decided not to run again. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on April 1, 1921 in Washington Court House, where he was also buried.
