Martin Luther Smyser (*  3. April 1851 in Plain Township , Wayne County , Ohio , †  6. May 1908 in Wooster , Ohio) was an American politician of the Republican Party . March 4, 1889 to March 3, 1891 and March 4, 1905 to March 3, 1907 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 17th and 20th  congressional districts of the State of Ohio.

biography

Smyser was born on a farm in Plain Township. He attended the public schools there. He then studied law . In 1872 he was admitted to the bar. Together with Addison S. McClure , he opened a law firm in Wooster in 1873. Starting in 1872, Smyser served as Wayne County's attorney for a period . As a delegate he took part in the Republican National Conventions in Chicago in 1884 and 1888 .

In the 1888 congressional election , Smyser ran successfully for his party in the 20th electoral district of Ohio. He represented this constituency in the House of Representatives for one legislative period. In 1890 he was no longer elected. He worked again as a lawyer in Wooster. In 1898 he was appointed a judge at the Ohio District Courts of Appeals by Governor Asa S. Bushnell . In 1904 , Smyser ran again successfully for a seat in the House of Representatives, this time in the 17th electoral district. He also represented this constituency for only one legislative period. Until his death in 1908 he worked again as a lawyer in Wooster. He was buried in Wooster Cemetery in his hometown.
