Thomas E. Scroggy

Thomas Edmund Scroggy (born March 18, 1843 in Harveysburg , Warren County , Ohio , †  March 6, 1915 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1907 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Scroggy attended the public schools in his home country and then worked in the trade. Between 1861 and 1865 he served as a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War . He then worked in retail in Xenia . In 1869 he was elected justice of the peace there for one year. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1871, he began to practice this profession in Xenia. During this time he was a community servant and legal advisor for three terms. He was an appellate judge in 1898 and 1904. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1904 Scroggy was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Charles Q. Hildebrant on March 4, 1905 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1906, he could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1907 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Scroggy returned to practice as a lawyer. In 1912 he moved to Tulsa, where he died on March 6, 1915. He was buried in Xenia.
