Charles Dustin Coffin (born September 9, 1805 in Newburyport , Massachusetts , †  February 28, 1880 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) was an American politician of the Whig Party . From 1837 to 1839 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 17th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Charles D. Coffin was born in Newburyport. There he attended public schools. He moved to Lisbon with his parents . After studying law , he was admitted to the bar in 1823. He started working in Lisbon. In 1828 he worked as a clerk at the courts of Columbiana County .

In a special election in 1837, Coffin was elected to the US House of Representatives for the resigned Andrew W. Loomis . He represented Ohio's 17th Congressional District for the remainder of the legislature. In 1838 he no longer ran for election. He resumed his legal work and was also active in the private sector. He was President of the Columbiana Bank in Lisbon. In 1842 he moved to Cincinnati and worked there again as a lawyer. In 1845 he was elected Superior Court Judge for a seven-year term. In 1861, Governor William Dennison junior reappointed him for this position, in 1868 he resigned. Coffin died in Cincinnati in 1880. He was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery .
