Edward Grimes Breen (born June 10, 1908 in Dayton , Ohio , † May 8, 1991 there ) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1951 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Breen attended Corpus Christi Grammar School and then studied at the University of Dayton and Ohio State University . He then worked in the hotel industry. During World War II , he served as a major in the United States Army squadron in North Africa and Italy . After that he was a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve . After the war he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was Mayor of Dayton between November 1945 and April 1948.

In the 1948 congressional election , Breen was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Republican Raymond H. Burke on January 3, 1949 . After a re-election, he could remain in Congress until his resignation for health reasons on October 1, 1951 . This time was shaped by the events of the Cold War .

Edward Breen served on the Montgomery County County Council from 1955 to 1960 . Otherwise he worked in the real estate and insurance industry. He died in Dayton on May 8, 1991. Breen had been married to Constance Focke since 1956, with whom he had two children.
