Henry Brush (born June 1778 in Dutchess County , New York , †  January 19, 1855 near London , Ohio ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1819 and 1821 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Brush attended preparatory schools. After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar in 1803, he began to work in this profession in Chillicothe (Ohio). At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In 1810 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives ; In 1814 he was a member of the State Senate . He also took an active part in the British-American War of 1812 and later became a Colonel in the State Militia.

In the congressional elections of 1818 Brush was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Levi Barber on March 4, 1819 . Since he was defeated by his predecessor in 1820, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1821 . During this time he was chairman of the War Department's Expenditure Control Committee.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Henry Brush served as a judge on the Supreme Court of Ohio between 1828 and 1831 . After that, he retired. He died on January 19, 1855 on his farm near London.
