William Mitchell Morgan

William Mitchell Morgan (born August 1, 1870 in Brownsville , Licking County , Ohio , †  September 17, 1935 in Columbus , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1931 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Morgan attended public schools in his home country. Until 1898 he worked in various industries. Then he moved to Newark , where he worked as a worker and later as a musician. He also studied literature and science. At times he was also employed in agriculture, trade and the wool business. Morgan was also involved in the labor and union movement. So he became president of the Newark Musicians' Union. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the 1920 congressional elections , Morgan was elected to the 17th  constituency of Ohio in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Democrat William A. Ashbrook on March 4, 1921 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1921 . In 1930 it was not confirmed.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Morgan resumed his previous activities. In 1932 he applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress. In 1935 he was chairman of the Federation of Labor in Ohio for several months . He then became a member of the State Industrial Commission. He died in Columbus on September 17, 1935 and was buried in Newark.
