William P. Sprague

William Peter Sprague (born May 21, 1827 in Malta , Morgan County , Ohio , †  March 3, 1899 in McConnelsville , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1875 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Sprague attended public schools in his home country and then worked in commerce until 1864. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1860 and 1863 he was a member of the Ohio Senate . From 1866 he lived in McConnelsville, where he worked in the banking industry. In the congressional election of 1870 Sprague was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 15th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Eliakim H. Moore on March 4, 1871 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1875 . In 1874 he renounced another candidacy.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, William Sprague returned to banking. He died on March 3, 1899 in McConnelsville, where he was also buried.
