McConnelsville is a place on the Muskingum River in County Morgan in the American state of Ohio , about 100 km east of Columbus . McConnelsville has a population of just under 1700 ( 2000 census ), and is the administrative seat of County Morgan.
The historic city center was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as McConnelsville Historic District in 1979, making it a listed building.
history
McConnelsville was founded in 1871 by Robert McConnel , a general from the American Revolutionary War . Before the abolition of slavery in the United States in 1865, McConnelsville was an underground railroad station for escaped slaves from the southern states.
