William D. Lindsley

William Dell Lindsley (born December 25, 1812 in New Haven , Connecticut , †  March 11, 1890 in Perkins , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Lindsley attended public schools in his home country. In 1832 he moved to Buffalo , New York and a little later to Sandusky in Erie County , Ohio, where he worked in agriculture. He was also active in the state militia, reaching the rank of brigadier general in 1843. Politically, Lindsley joined the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1852 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded James M. Gaylord on March 4, 1853 . Since he was not confirmed in 1854, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1855 . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, William Lindsley worked again in agriculture. He died on March 11, 1890 in Perkins and was buried in Sandusky.
