John Hutchins

John Hutchins (*  25. July 1812 in Vienna Center , Trumbull County , Ohio ; †  20th November 1891 in Cleveland , Ohio) was an American politician of the Republican Party . March 4, 1859 to March 3, 1863 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 20th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Hutchins was born in Vienna Center in Ohio. He attended the schools in Trumbull County and the Western Reserve College in Cleveland. He studied law with David Tod . In 1837 he was admitted to the Warren bar. From 1838 to 1843 he was employed in various Trumbull County courts, but not as a judge. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1849 to 1850. He served as Mayor of Warren for two years and as a member of the city's school committee for six years.

From 1859 to 1863, Hutchins was a member of the United States House of Representatives. There he represented the 20th constituency of Ohio. From 1861 to 1863 he was chairman of the Committee on Manufacturers . In 1862 the 20th constituency was dissolved, and Hutchins did not run in any other constituency. From then on he worked again as a lawyer in Warren. In 1868 he moved to Cleveland, where he continued his profession. He died in Cleveland on November 20, 1891 and was buried in Lake View Cemetery .

Hutchins was married to Rhoda M. Andrews, who died less than a year before him in Cleveland. They both had five children. His cousin, Wells A. Hutchins , was also a member of the House of Representatives.
