Ezra B. Taylor

Ezra Booth Taylor (* 9. July 1823 in Nelson Township , Portage County , Ohio ; † 29. January 1912 in Warren , Ohio) was an American politician of the Republican Party . Of 13 December 1880 to 3 March 1893, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 19th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Taylor was born in Nelson Township. There he attended school. After leaving school, he studied law and was admitted to the bar. From 1845 he worked as a lawyer. From 1854 to 1861 he served as a prosecutor in Warren. During the Civil War he fought on the side of the northern states. Between 1877 and 1880 he served as a judge in Ohio.

After James A. Garfield was elected US President , Taylor was elected as his successor in the US House of Representatives in a special election. Taylor was re-elected a total of 6 times. From 1889 to 1891 he was Chairman of the United States House Committee on the Judiciary . In 1893 he left the House . From then on he worked as a lawyer again. Taylor died in his hometown of Warren in 1912. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery .

Taylor was married to Harriet M. Frazier. Together they both had two children, a daughter and a son.
