Edward Oscar McCowen (born June 29, 1877 in Bloom , Scioto County , Ohio , †  November 4, 1953 in Wheelersburg , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1941 and 1949 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward McCowen attended the public schools in South Webster . In 1908 he graduated from Ohio Northern University in Ada . In the following years he was active in the school service. Between 1914 and 1942 he rose from high school teacher to headmaster and eventually school council in Scioto County. In between he took advanced training courses. In 1917 he was at Ohio State University in Columbus ; In 1939 he graduated from the University of Cincinnati Graduate School . He was also the curator of Rio Grande College in Ohio. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1935 and 1946 he was a delegate to regional Republican conventions in Ohio.

In the 1942 congressional election , McCowen was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Democrat Jacob E. Davis on January 3, 1943 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1949 . These were shaped by the events of the Second World War and its consequences as well as by the beginning of the Cold War .

In 1948 Edward McCowen was not re-elected. After his time in the US House of Representatives he remained interested in political developments. He moved to Wheelersburg, where he died on November 4, 1953.
