Joseph D. Taylor
Joseph Danner Taylor (* 7. November 1830 in Goshen Township , Ohio ; † 19th September 1899 in Cambridge , Ohio) was an American politician of the Republican Party . January 2, 1883 to March 3, 1885, on 4 March 1887 to 3 March 1893, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 16th, 17th and 18th congressional districts of the State of Ohio.
biography
Taylor was born in Goshen Township. He attended school in Clermont County. He then went to college and became a teacher. From 1854 to 1856 he was a teacher at Fairview High School, from 1857 director of the high school. He later studied law at the University of Cincinnati . In 1860 he received the Juris Doctor there . In the same year he was admitted to the bar and opened a law firm in Cambridge. In 1861 he founded the Guernsey Times , a daily newspaper he owned until 1871.
During the Civil War , Taylor served in the Union Army . From 1863 to 1865 he worked as a judge advocate . After the end of the war he went into politics. He was a delegate at the Republican National Conventions in 1876 and 1880.
Taylor was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 1883 in a special election in the 16th District of Ohio . There he ended the legislature of the late Jonathan T. Updegraff . In the regular elections he ran in the 17th district, with success. He only sat there for one legislative period. In 1887 he moved into the House again for the 17th District. This time he represented this district for two legislative terms. In 1891 he moved to the 18th district, which he represented again for one legislative period. In 1893 he left for good. He retired to Cambridge, where he died in 1899. He was buried there in the South Cemetery .
