Nelson Barrere

Nelson Barrere (born April 1, 1808 in Hillsboro , Highland County , Ohio , †  August 20, 1883 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1851 and 1853 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Nelson Barrere attended public schools in his home country. In 1827 he graduated from Hillsboro High School . He then studied at Augusta College in Kentucky until 1830 . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1833, he began to work in Hillsboro in this profession. Between 1834 and 1846 he lived in West Union , where he practiced as a lawyer. In 1846 he returned to Hillsboro. Politically, he joined the Whig Party . He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives in 1837 and 1838 .

In the congressional election of 1850 Barrere was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Democrat Jonathan D. Morris on March 4, 1851 . Since he was not confirmed in 1852, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1853 . These were shaped by the events leading up to the civil war . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Barrere worked again as a lawyer in Hillsboro, where he died on August 20, 1883. His nephew Granville Barrere (1829-1889) was also a member of Congress.
