James V. Stanton (1973)

James Vincent Stanton (born February 27, 1932 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is a former American politician of the Democratic Party . January 3, 1971 to January 3, 1977 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 20th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

James Stanton was born in Cleveland. In 1949 he finished high school with graduation from Holy Name High School . He then served in the US Air Force in the Korean War from 1950 to 1954 . In 1958 he made his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Dayton . He followed up with the Juris Doctor at Cleveland State University in 1961 . In the same year he was admitted to the bar and practiced from then on.

From 1959 to 1970 Stanton was a member of Cleveland City Council. He chaired the committee from 1964 to 1970. In the 1970 congressional elections , Stanton was elected to the US House of Representatives as a representative of the 20th District of Ohio. He succeeded Michael A. Feighan . In 1976 he no longer ran for the House of Representatives, but in the party's internal primaries for a seat in the Federal Senate . There he was defeated by Howard Metzenbaum , whom he successfully supported in his candidacy. After the end of his political career, he worked as a lawyer in Washington, DC from 1977 to 1981 . In 1981 he became vice president of Delaware North , a hospitality company. He held this post until 1988.

Stanton currently lives in Potomac .
