John Woods

John Woods (born October 18, 1794 in Johnstown , Cambria County , Pennsylvania , † July 30, 1855 in Hamilton , Ohio ) was an American politician with the National Republican Party . From 1825 to 1829 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the second  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

John Woods was born in Pennsylvania. He moved with his parents to Ohio, where he attended public schools. He served in the British-American War . After the war he was headmaster of a school in Springboro for two years . He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1819. In Hamilton he settled as a lawyer. From 1820 to 1825 he was prosecutor for Butler County .

In the 1824 congressional elections , Woods was elected to the US House of Representatives as the representative of the 2nd Congressional District. There he represented his district until 1829, a re-election in 1828 was unsuccessful. In 1829, on his return from Washington, he became an editor at the Hamilton Intelligencer . From 1845 to 1851 he was a State Auditor for Ohio.

In 1855 John Woods died in Hamilton. There he was buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
