Thomas Gibson (politician)

Thomas Gibson (born 1750 in Colony of Virginia , † May 13, 1814 in Ohio ) was an American politician ( Democratic Republican Party ). He was Ohio State Auditor from 1803 to 1808 .

Career

Thomas Gibson was born and raised in the Thirteen Colonies during the reign of George II . Nothing is known about his youth. He fought during the War of Independence . He then moved to the Northwest Territory , where he became an auditor of the territory . Ohio became a state in March 1803. The Ohio General Assembly convened for a session and on March 15, 1803, Gibson was elected Ohio's first Auditor of State. Gibson served a three-year term and was then re-elected by the Legislature on January 20, 1806 . He held the post until his resignation on March 1, 1808. He was also a member of the Freemasons . He was an early member of Nova Caesaree Lodge No. 10 in Cincinnati, Ohio and the first master of Scioto Lodge No. 2 in Chillicothe, Ohio from 1805 to 1807 . On December 11, 1799, he was elevated to Royal Arch Mason in Cincinnati Branch No. 2 . He died on May 3, 1814.
