Francis Mastin Wright

Francis Mastin Wright (born July 14, 1810 in Frederick County , Virginia , † January 16, 1869 in Urbana , Ohio ) was an American businessman and politician . He was Ohio State Auditor from 1856 to 1860 .

Career

Not much is known about Francis Mastin Wright. He was born about two years before the outbreak of the British-American War . The family then moved to Ohio and settled in Clark County . Wright attended the county schools there. He worked as a businessman first in Springfield (Ohio) and later in Urbana (Ohio). At the time he was a member of the Whig Party . He was elected County Auditor for Champaign County . In the following years he joined the Republican Party . In 1855 he ran for the office of Auditor of State of Ohio. In the following election in the same year, he defeated the incumbent Auditor of State William Duane Morgan , who belonged to the Democratic Party . Wright held the post for a four-year term. He decided not to run for a second term. When his tenure ended, he returned to Urbana, Ohio. President Abraham Lincoln appointed him Internal Revenue Collector. Wright held the post until his resignation in 1867. His tenure was overshadowed by the Civil War .
