Edward McMullan Fullington (born August 25, 1864 in Union County , Ohio , † November 8, 1927 in Lake City , Florida ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He was an Auditor of State for Ohio from 1909 to 1913 and later an Auditor for the Philippines .

Career

Edward McMullan Fullington, son of James and Eliza McMullan Fullington, was born on a farm in Union Township during the Civil War . He attended local schools and Kenyon College . In 1888 he moved to Marysville, Ohio to work in the Bank of Marysville , which his father founded.

Fullington was elected Union County Auditor in 1895 and was re-elected unopposed in 1898. As President of the County Auditor's Association of the State of Ohio , he worked to improve public budget management practices. The legislature passed a bill to establish a State Bureau of Inspection and Supervision of Public Offices, which later became known as the Bureau of Accounting . Fullington was named its director when his term as county auditor ended in 1902. In 1904 the Legislature created the position of Deputy Auditor of State and Fullington was appointed to that position. He held the post until he was elected Auditor of State of Ohio in 1908 - a position he held from 1909 to 1913.

For seven years, beginning in 1898, Fullington served in the Ohio National Guard. During this time he took part in the Spanish-American War in Puerto Rico . He held the rank of major and was quartermaster there. On October 8, 1921, he was appointed Auditor of the Philippines by the Department of War .

Fullington married Ida Irvin Matthews on November 25, 1891 in Dayton, Ohio. The couple had two sons. He was a Freemason , an Elk , a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Trinity Episcopal Church .
