Charles D. Martin

Charles Drake Martin (born August 5, 1829 in Mount Vernon , Ohio , †  August 27, 1911 in Lancaster , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1859 and 1861 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Martin attended public schools in his home country and then Kenyon College in Gambier . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1850, he began to work in Lancaster in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1858 , Martin was elected to the Eleventh constituency of Ohio in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Valentine B. Horton on March 4, 1859 . Since he was defeated by his predecessor in 1860, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1861 . This was shaped by the events in the immediate run-up to the civil war .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Charles Martin practiced as a lawyer again. From 1883 to 1886 he was a member of the Supreme Court Commission . He died on August 27, 1911 in Lancaster, where he was also buried.
