The Warsaw Business Journal is an English-language weekly based in Warsaw . The title is aimed at foreigners and business travelers living in Poland. It is published on economic, business and political topics. A special focus is placed on the real estate market. The newspaper appears in tabloid format and is consistently colored.

history

The newspaper was founded in 1994 as a sister publication of the Budapest Business Journal of the media company New World Publishing (NWP) by the Americans Thom Barnhardt and Stephan O'Connor. Another sister publication was the Prague Business Journal , which was discontinued in 2004. Shortly after the newspaper was founded, disagreements arose with a Warsaw entrepreneur who was initially won as a joint venture partner (publisher of a specialist magazine). A legal dispute ensued and over several weeks two editions of the title were published in parallel (by each party) until NWP was able to prevail.

From 2002 there were problems with the Polish tax authorities. In 2004, after restructuring the Polish publishing house and selling it to New World Publishing Polska Sp.z oo, an agreement on tax debts was reached. In August 2004 the media company Valkea Media SA took over the title. In addition, other smaller publications of the Polish NWP passed to the new owner. Under the new owner, the print run of the newspaper was increased from 10,000 copies to an initial 15,000 copies in 2005. The distribution of the title, which had hitherto mainly been distributed in the Warsaw region, was also expanded to the whole country.
