David A. Starkweather

David Austin Starkweather (born January 21, 1802 in Preston , New London County , Connecticut , † July 12, 1876 in Cleveland , Ohio ) was an American diplomat and politician of the Democratic Party . March 4, 1839 to March 3, 1841 and March 4, 1845 to March 3, 1847, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 18th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Starkweather was born in Preston, Connecticut. He finished his school career at Williams College , Massachusetts . He then studied law in Cooperstown , New York State . In 1825 he was admitted to the bar and worked from then on in Mansfield . From 1833 to 1835 he then took his first political mandate in the Ohio House of Representatives . From 1836 to 1838 he then sat in the State Senate .

He was elected to the US House of Representatives for the first time in 1838, but his reelection failed in 1840. In 1844 he managed to move into the House again , but did not run for re-election. In 1848 he was a member of the Electoral College .

Between 1854 and 1857, Starkweather was the United States' 8th Envoy to Chile . In 1860 he ran again unsuccessfully for a seat in the US House of Representatives.

In 1876, Starkweather died of paralysis at his daughter's home in Cleveland. He had a total of 4 children, 3 daughters and a son.
