Jonathan H. Wallace

Jonathan Hasson Wallace (born October 31, 1824 in St. Clair Township , Ohio , † October 28, 1892 in Lisbon , Ohio) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . Of 27 May 1884 to March 3, 1885, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 18th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

Wallace was born and raised in St. Clair Township. He studied law at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington . He then worked as a lawyer in Benjamin Stanton 's law firm . It is not clear whether he actually served as the Columbiana County attorney between 1851 and 1853 . However, the available sources (see web links) assume this.

In a special election in 1884, Wallace was elected to succeed William McKinley . When re-elected in November 1884, he ran for election and lost to Republican Isaac H. Taylor .

On March 5, 1885, Ohio Governor George Hoadly named him a judge in the Ohio State's service for one year. He then worked again as a lawyer.

He died in Lisbon in 1892. He was buried there in the Lisbon Cemetery . Wallace had been married to Elizabeth L. McCook since 1848 and both had four children.
