Archibald Lybrand

Archibald Lybrand (born May 23, 1840 in Tarlton , Pickaway County , Ohio , †  February 7, 1910 in Daytona , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1901 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1857 Archibald Lybrand moved to Delaware , Delaware County . He attended the public schools of his respective homeland and the Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware. During the civil war between 1861 and 1864 he served in various units in the Union Army , in which he rose to captain. After the war, he returned to Delaware, where he became mayor in 1869. After studying law, he was admitted to the bar in 1871. He worked as a landowner in agriculture and trade. From 1881 to 1885 he was a post holder in Delaware. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1896 , Lybrand was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Luther M. Strong on March 4, 1897 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1901 . During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell . In 1900 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Archibald Lybrand resumed his previous activities. He died in Daytona on February 7, 1910 and was buried in Delaware.
