De Witt C. Badger
De Witt Clinton Badger (born August 7, 1858 in London , Ohio , † May 20, 1926 in Columbus , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1905 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .
Career
De Witt Badger attended public schools in his home country and Mount Union College in Alliance . Between 1875 and 1880 he worked as a teacher. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1881, he began to work in this profession in London. From 1882 to 1885 he was a prosecutor in the local Madison County . He later moved to Columbus, where he served as a district judge in Franklin County between 1893 and 1903 . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .
In the congressional election of 1902 Badger was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the twelfth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Republican Emmett Tompkins on March 4, 1903 . Since he refused to run again in 1904, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1905 . After his time in the US House of Representatives Badger practiced again as a lawyer. From 1906 to 1908 he was mayor of the city of Columbus. He died there on May 20, 1926.
