Samuel Stokely

Samuel Stokely (born January 25, 1796 in Washington , Pennsylvania , † May 23, 1861 in Steubenville , Ohio ) was an American politician of the United States Whig Party . March 4, 1841 to March 3, 1843, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 19th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Stokely was born in Washington . There he attended the local schools. He then studied law . In 1817 he was admitted to the bar. He settled in Steubenville. From 1837 to 1838 he was a member of the State Senate .

From 1841 to 1843 Stokely was a member of the US House of Representatives. He was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. He retired to Steubenville, where he worked as a lawyer until his death in 1861. He was buried in Union Cemetery .

Stokely married Rachel Mason in 1830. After that he was married twice. He and his three wives had a total of four children.
